Spring has arrived at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve. The ice has melted off the lakes and the fish are active. We have enjoyed watching the fish rise this week during afternoon midge hatches. In this blog we will share some of our favorite spring activities and spring fishing tips.

Fishing is one of our favorite spring activities at Six Lakes Resort. The fish are hungry and active and April and May is some of the best fishing of the year. During the early spring temperatures are cold in the morning and fish are feeding deeper in the lake and the weather warms up during the afternoon and warmer afternoons bring fish up closer to the surface to feed on midges and gnats hatching from the weeds near the surface. When fish are feeding near the bottom of the lake jigging woolly buggers and leech patterns on the deep side of weed beds and in the deeper sections of the lake will produce fish. In the afternoons and evening dropping a zebra midge or midge emerger about 18 to 24 inches off of a strike indicator or dry fly and casting it along the edge of weedbeds and to rising fish is a great way to catch fish in April and May.

Paddling around the lakes in the morning and evening is another one of our favorite activities at Six Lakes in the spring. Rowboats and canoes at Six Lakes are great for paddling around the lakes and enjoying the beautiful waterfowl. The evenings are amazing for exploring the lakes and enjoying breathtaking sunsets as the sun drops below the horizon and oranges and pinks light the up the sky and reflect on the lakes. Evening is also a great time to soak in the hot tub and watch the gorgeous sunset.

Bike riding and hiking on the property is also a great spring activity at Six Lakes. Families will enjoy seeing wildlife and waterfowl as they walk and bike around the fishing preserve on the many dirt roads and trails.

We hope to see you and your family this spring at Six Lakes for some spring fishing and outdoor recreation!
