The winter months at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve is ice fishing and pheasant hunting season. It is a great time of year for families that enjoy spending time hunting and fishing to get outside and spend some time together fishing or bird hunting. In this blog we will share some tips and tricks for having a great experience with your family ice fishing or bird hunting.

The most important part of planning an ice fishing or bird hunting trip with your family or group of friends is to make sure you choose a location that has great fishing and bird hunting. Six Lakes Resort is a perfect location for families and friends to gather and catch and fish and hunt pheasants. The lakes at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve are full of beautiful trout and bass and are great for fishermen who love to fish and there are great cabins for families to spend a night or two in large comfortable beds and a large kitchen for preparing great food. Hunting groups love to hunt pheasant and chukar just down the road at the amazing Pleasant Valley Hunting Preserve.

The second priority when you plan an ice fishing and bird hunting trip with your family is to bring the correct gear for a successful trip. During the winter months the weather is cold and groups will need to bring warm clothing, coats, snow pants, snow boots and gloves, and a warm hat. Warm, dry clothing will help you stay comfortable during your time ice fishing and pheasant hunting at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve. Fortunately, the cabins are right next to the lakes, so if you do get cold you can go get warm by the fire or sit in the big hot tub to warm up. Groups that will be ice fishing will want to make sure and bring an ice auger or chainsaw to cut holes in the ice and some fishing rods to fish with. Ice fishing jigs with a white body and orange or red head work well and green ice fishing jigs also work well. Bird hunting groups will want to bring their shotgun and something orange to wear while hunting to be visible and safe.

The last thing to remember when planning an ice fishing or bird hunting trip is to bring good food and games to play at night. The cabins at Six Lakes Resort have great kitchens and groups love to cook delicous food and eat great while on vacation. One of our favorite parts of fishing and hunting trips is to eat our favorite foods with our family and friends. During the evening the cabins at Six Lakes are great for gathering and sitting in the hot tub, playing games around the fire, and watching sports games on the big screen TV.
