There are many amazing areas to fish in Utah and many of them are in northeastern Utah in the Green River drainage. Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve is located in the middle of the Green River drainage and offers endless opportunities to fish both lakes and rivers in this amazing area. In this blog we will share some of the best fishing lakes and rivers in Utah.

Six Lakes Fishing Preserve gets water from springs just above the preserve that supply the lakes with fresh, clean, clear water year-round and keep the trout and bass healthy and active throughout the whole year. The lakes at Six Lakes are some of the best trout lakes in Utah and fishermen can catch trophy rainbow, brown, and tiger trout in the lakes at Six Lakes Fishing Preserve. Fishermen can fish at Six Lakes year-round and will find great fishing every month of the year. During the spring months there are large midge hatches that make the fishing in the spring incredible. The summer months the trout hang out deeper in the lake and leeches, woolly buggers, and jigs near the bottom of the lake are the best way to catch trout and bass. In the fall months the trout and bass are actively feeding to put on weight for the winter months and fall fishing can be fast and furious. During the winter ice fishing can be productive and small ice jigs and nymphs can produce some very large fish.

Fishermen staying at Six Lakes catch trophy trout out of the lakes on the preserve, but there are also many great rivers in the area. Just north of the Six Lakes Fishing Preserve is the Ashley National Forest. Rock Creek and Yellowstone Creek flow out of the Uinta Mountains through the Ashley National Forest. These two forest streams are great for fishermen that want to see beautiful areas and catch wild fish. These two streams are full of native cutthroat trout and wild brook trout. Fishermen will also be rewarded with occasional rainbow trout and a rare brown trout. These forest streams are fun to fish and are and amazing opportunity to catch lots of fish and see breathtaking scenery.

There are also two world-class brown trout rivers in northeastern Utah. The Strawberry River and Duchesne River are two of the main tributaries of the Green River and they are just south of Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve. Both of these rivers are amazing brown trout fisheries and fishermen that venture out and fish these beautiful rivers will find world-class brown trout. Some of the fishermen that have fished these two rivers have compared them to rivers they have fished in New Zealand. These two rivers get excellent hatches of green drakes, PMDs, stoneflies, and caddis throughout the summer. They also have excellent hopper fishing in the fall and midge fishing in the winter months.

Fishing in northeastern Utah offers some of the best fishing in the United States and offers an amazing variety of lakes and rivers to fish and species to catch. The Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve offers beautiful cabins on the banks of trophy trout lakes. We hope to see you at Six Lakes this year for some world-class fishing!
