Fall fishing is starting at Six Lakes and the fishing is hot.  There are many species at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve and many of the species are active in September.  The bass, bluegill, and rainbow trout fishing is great right now and the brown and tiger trout fishing will be getting good over the next couple weeks.  In this blog we will discuss the techniques to use during September and October to catch these different species at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve.

The bass and bluegill fishing is amazing right now.  Bass are actively feeding and using a frog or mouse popper and casting it along the reeds and cattails and popping it will initiate aggressive takes from these actively feeding bass.  Dropping a prince nymph or pheasant tail nymph about a foot off of a popper pattern and casting it along the reeds and cattails and letting it sit will catch bluegill.  Bluegill feed heavily on these small nymphs and it is a very effective way to catch bluegill.

Rainbow trout are active in September and can be caught in most of the lakes at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve.  Woolly buggers and leech patterns stripped along the edge of weed beds and around shallow bays are an effective way to fish for rainbow trout in September.  A grasshopper pattern with a nymph dropped off about two feet is another great setup for targeting rainbow trout in the fall.  During the evening in September rainbows will often cruise along the edge of weedbeds and cattails.  Casting a grasshopper pattern with a nymph dropped off to these cruising rainbows is a great way to catch these cruising fish.

Brown and tiger trout are also actively feeding in September and October.  Similar techniques used to target rainbow trout can also be used to target brown and tiger trout.  The biggest difference is that brown and tiger trout are more active in the cooler and darker times of the day.  The best times to target brown and tiger trout are during heavy cloud cover or late in the evening and night time.  Brown and tiger trout are more predatory and using streamers, wooly buggers, mouse, and frog patterns are a great way to target these species during the late evening or night.

We hope to see you this fall at Six Lakes Resort and Fishing Preserve for some of the best fishing of the year!
