Six Lakes is a wonderful place to be in November. The fishing is good, the wildlife is active, the sunsets are spectacular, and the preserve is quiet and peaceful. Families and friends love to gather at Six Lakes for weekend events and holiday parties during this time of year and get in some relaxation, fishing, bike riding, hiking, and time with family. Here are a few tips and tricks for having a successful Utah family vacation during this time of year.
The most important piece of advice we always give to families is to plan ahead. During the summer months the lodge and cabins at Six Lakes get reserved almost every day and families need to contact us six months to a year in advance to get a reservation at Six Lakes Resort. During November and December, you still need to plan, but not as far ahead as the summer months. The lodge and Eagle Cabin do stay busy on the weekends during this time of year, but if you contact us a few months ahead you can usually get the dates you want.
Bring lots of fun toys and equipment. Six Lakes is an amazing property for outdoor recreation, so we encourage families to bring their favorite outdoor equipment. There are mountain bike trails around the preserve and the lots of lakes to play on. There is great fishing and hiking, and many groups enjoy throwing around a football or frisbee or playing volleyball. We keep some canoes, rowboats, volleyballs, and basketballs on the property, but we encourage families to bring their favorite equipment to enjoy while staying at Six Lakes.
During November and December, the weather can be cold, so we encourage families to bring cold weather gear. Warm jackets and coats are great things to bring when you visit Six Lakes in November and December so that you can stay warm when you are out fishing, canoeing, hiking, and biking at the Six Lakes Fishing and Wildlife Preserve.
Fishing is good this time of year, but fish are sitting deeper in the lake. We encourage families to bring sinking fly lines and weights to get flies and lures down about 15 to 20 feet. Common flies and lures work well this time of year and we recommend guests bring a variety of woolly buggers, leeches, jigs, and spinners to fish with.
A Utah family vacation is wonderful any time of year, but we love the holiday season when families can gather and celebrate. We hope to see you soon at Six Lakes!
