Winter at Six Lakes is a beautiful and peaceful time of year. It is one of the best times of year for peace and quiet and to get away and relax with your family. Families love to gather at Six Lakes any time of the year, but the late fall and winter has become a favorite time of year for many families due to the great, low prices and the feeling that your family has the entire resort to yourself. In this blog we will discuss some of our favorite activities for families to do at Six Lakes from late fall to spring.
One of our favorite family activities at Six Lakes is fishing. The late fall through early spring is one of the best times of year to fish at Six Lakes. In November and December the trout are very actively feeding to stock up for the winter and families can catch lots of great trout these months. From late December to March families will enjoy coming out and ice fishing, ice skating, and playing on the ice. Fish are active even under the ice and families can catch plenty of fish during January and February. The ice melts off the lakes in March and families that want to get out of the house after a long winter will find some great fishing in March and April. Trout stick fairly close to the bottom of the lake during these cold months and feed on blood worms, crayfish, minnows, and leeches along the bottom of the lake. We recommend fishing slow and low during these cold months and using patterns and jigs that imitate leeches, blood worms, and small minnows.
During the late fall and early spring families enjoy kayaking and canoeing on the lakes. The weather is chilly, but this quiet time of year is a great time to throw on a jacket and go out and paddle around the lakes to enjoy some peace and quiet and see some birds and wildlife. When the lakes freeze over in late December families still enjoy getting out and ice skating and playing on the ice in January and February.
During these colder months sitting in the large hot tub is a favorite activity for families. Families love to soak in the hot tub in the evening and watch the beautiful stars as they relax and soak muscles. Sitting around the campfire is also a popular activity for families relaxing at Six Lakes from November to April.
We hope to see your family this winter and spring at Six Lakes Fishing Resort for some family fishing and outdoor recreation!
